QLZH Foundation organised yet another successful clean-up event at Senglea seafront for World Oceans Day. The dedicated team of over 60 volunteers and 20 divers worked tirelessly for more than 4 hours to retrieve a variety of discarded items from the popular waterfront.

They managed to collect an impressive assortment of debris, including chairs, tables, tires, ladders, and even a bike. Not to mention the numerous glass bottles, jars, cups, and various other items that were lurking beneath the waters.

The collective effort of these passionate individuals resulted in two skips filled to the brim with the retrieved waste.

QLZH Foundation expressed its heartfelt gratitude to all the sponsors who made this event possible. A special thanks to Deloitte, QuickLets, Zanzi Homes, and QLC for their invaluable support as the main sponsors of the event. The assistance provided by Bad Boys Cleaners on the day was also greatly appreciated.

In addition, Laferla ensured the operation was protected with their insurance coverage, while HMS Group generously supplied the skips for the clean-up. The underwater filming was expertly carried out by Raniero’s Adventures, capturing the efforts in action. Furthermore, Mannarinu provided nourishing food for the hardworking volunteers, ensuring they remained energised throughout the day.

The event received additional support from Clean Malta and No to Plastic, organisations that share the common goal of promoting cleanliness and sustainability. Their involvement further reinforced the impact of this annual clean-up.

After Nwoko was taken off the bench after the break along with midfielder Bjorn Kristensen, the tactical move by Marcolini proved to be exactly what they needed to find the goal.

The win will undoubtedly motivate the Maltese further as they get ready to face England at the National Stadium and Ukraine after that.

Well done boys!

726,299 passengers move through Malta Airport in May 2023

726,299 passengers move through Malta Airport in May 2023
Jun 10 2023 Share

May 2023 saw the second consecutive month during which more than 700,000 passengers moved through the Malta International Airport.

May traffic amounted to 726,299 passenger movements, which is an increase of 77% over the same month back in 2019.

The seat capacity increased by 4.3% when compared to the aforementioned year, with the average seat load factor gaining 2.7% points over the reference year to reach 82.9%.

Italy continued to keep its top spot, leading the Malta International Airport market with a 24% market share. It was followed by the UK, France, Germany and Spain.

Meanwhile, Italy, France and Spain all outperformed their respective 2019 passenger traffic results.

The growth registered by Italy and France was associated to an increase in flights to and from these destinations. As for Spain, the growth was largely the result of improved seat load factors.

The UK and Germany, however, continued to perform below 2019 levels as flight connections between Malta and these respective countries did not fully recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite this, Germany still resisted the highest increase in seat load factor when compared to May 2019. Moreover, the start of flights to Hamburg and Dusseldorf, in May, operated by Eurowings is expected to support the German market in its recovery during the summer months.
