Local Police Confiscate Illegal Trap With Dead Hedgehog Inside

Local Police Confiscate Illegal Trap With Dead Hedgehog Inside

The Malta Ranger Unit took to social media to show the recent confiscation of an illegal quail trap by Malta’s police, with a dead hedgehog found in the trap.

‘Our Rangers in Gozo called for Police assistance after locating the illegal device (‘trabokk’ in Maltese), used for bird trapping and ILLEGAL all year around. Only nets are allowed for bird trapping during open season.’

Inside the trap there was a dead quail and a dead hedgehog. The rangers explained that this will be a matter for ERA due to the illegal entrapment of protected species.

Thanking the Gozo Police for their swift response, the Ranger unit urged for the establishment of an specialised unit – the Environmental Protection Unit Police – ‘which is much needed to see to all the environmental crimes happening on a daily basis on the island.’

‘Minister Clint Camilleri still hasn’t communicated with MRU after cancelling our meeting and has therefore been reported to the Ombudsman for breaching Directive 4-2. Our Unit has therefore not been allowed to highlight with the Minister the many environmental illegalities we see in Gozo regularly.’

‘We are grateful for our growing community and delighted to witness such enthusiasm for the show and islanders.’

‘The comments sections are being monitored, and we will take all necessary action in the best interest of those concerned.’

‘We encourage everyone to remember that we are all human. We all have emotions.’

This comes after some islanders were victims of hate comments pertaining to race, with many leaving discriminatory comments in the comment sections of posts revealing the participants.

Temperatures To Climb To A Hot 30°C On The Weekend

Temperatures To Climb To A Hot 30°C On The Weekend
May 16 2024 Share

The Maltese islands were hit with hazy and hot weather over this week, with today’s (Thursday 16th May) temperatures climbing as high as 29 degrees Celsius.

And it seems as though this weather is set to persist over the weekend, albeit hopefully with less stuffy haze and with more open air (we hope).

Temperatures are set to climb to 30°C by Saturday 18th May 2024, with mainly sunny weather on Sunday.

Despite the sunshine, it still feels very stuffy, and with light winds hitting the island. However, warnings were issued for today for moderate or strong waves out at sea.

What do you make of this weather?
