Local Pole Vaulter Opens Up About Reality Of Being An Athlete

May 2 2025 Share

Local pole vaulter Sana Grillo took to Instgram to open up about the realities of being an athlete and trying to perform at the highest levels.

Alongside being a 3 times national pole vault champion, Sana Grillo is also a sports psychology practitioner.

Grillo stated that being an athlete isn’t about the personal bests and top performance, but it’s also about the quiet battles behind the scenes.

She continued on by saying that there are frustrating times “when you train harder than ever, are focused, disciplined – but the results still don’t show up in the way you hoped.”

Sana also spoke about the mental war that most athletes face, having to push their body to the max but also listen to it to make sure that no injuries come up.

The pole vaulter ended her message by stating “This is the part people don’t always see yet so many athletes face. The persistence it takes to keep pushing when progress feels invisible, to trust that the work will pay off – even if it’s not now.”

Six Months Of Free Gym For Youths Born In 2007, 2006 and 2005 To Start On Sunday

May 2 2025 Share

In a speech marking Workers’ Day, Prime Minister Robert Abela confirmed that the government will begin delivering on a key electoral pledge this coming Sunday: six months of free gym access for young people born in 2005, 2006, and 2007.

“This is a direct investment in our youths’ wellbeing,” said the Prime Minister. “A healthy generation is a strong generation – and we want our young people to have every opportunity to live active and fulfilling lives.”

The scheme will make gym memberships more accessible to thousands of 17 to 20-year-olds across Malta and Gozo.

Alongside youth-focused initiatives, Dr Abela announced that between 2025 and 2026, Malta will benefit from a €500 million investment wave by a range of local and global companies. These include ST Micro Electronics, Baxter, Lufthansa Technik, Magro Brothers, Actavis, James Caterers, and Gimas.

The investments span strategic sectors such as digital technology, clean energy, pharmaceuticals, advanced manufacturing, financial services, and medical devices, creating high-quality careers and aligning with the long-term Malta 2050 Vision.

The Prime Minister also revealed that Malta’s new Labour Migration Policy is moving into the implementation phase, a key step toward better workforce regulation and long-term planning.

On the social front, the government will continue its reforms to adjust pensions for citizens born before 1962, aiming to eliminate the historical discrimination.

Meanwhile, the popular Cost of Living Benefit (COLA+) will see its second instalment paid out this June, with families receiving up to €1,500 annually. This measure alone will distribute almost €50 million this year to help households cope with inflation.

Throughout his address, Dr Abela emphasised that all these policies reflect the government’s commitment to working families.
