The restoration brought a fresh, cinematic look to Valletta’s historic streets, and the decision to keep the signs has been welcomed by locals and visitors alike.
Mayor McKay expressed his gratitude for Johann Grech’s support in making this happen. “I’ve just been on the line with the Film Commissioner. I would like to thank Johann Grech for his help in ensuring that the iconic doors created for the recent film being shot in Valletta will remain there permanently,” he said.

A new specialised therapeutic and support service for families in the pre- and post-birth phase has been officially launched in Malta. The service provides emotional and psychological support to both mothers and fathers during pregnancy and up to one year after childbirth.
Minister for Social Policy and Children’s Rights, Michael Falzon, announced the launch alongside Positive Parenting Malta, the organisation that will manage the service.
The service focuses on the perinatal period, a time that is often joyful but can also be challenging for many parents. Studies show that 1 in 5 women experience difficulties such as depression, anxiety, or trauma during this time. The service includes early screening to help identify emotional health conditions and provide timely support.
Minister Falzon said the launch reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to family wellbeing, mental health, and early intervention. “All families can benefit from this service, which offers the tools and support needed during these important stages,” he added.
Ruth Sciberras, Chairperson of Positive Parenting Malta, said the new service was made possible through collaboration between Positive Parenting Malta, the University of Malta’s Department of Childhood and Family Studies, and the Perinatal Mental Health Service at Mater Dei Hospital.
She described the initiative as a significant step towards building a society that supports both children and their parents throughout their parenting journey.
