In a moment of breaking news in the United Kingdom, it appears that Liz Truss has resigned as UK Prime Minister.
In a meeting with 1922 Committee chairman Sir Graham Brady, it was agreed that a leadership election will be held next week, with Truss to remain prime minister until a successor is elected.
Earlier today, Truss told journalists that she took office at a time of “great economic and international instability”, going on to state “I recognise, given the situation I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party.”
Truss spent a total of 45 days in office, making it the shortest Prime Minister tenure in the country’s history.
