Lightly secured concrete blocks fall off truck in Coast Road

Images uploaded to Facebook by independent political candidate Arnold Cassola shows blocks of concrete after having fallen off a truck.

The blocks were shown to be tied to the truck by a light rope, thus preventing the massive objects from being held safely as the vehicle travelled across the Coast Road.

Cassola addressed the issue, saying that ‘the cleaning should not be paid by taxpayers. Negligence and incompetence and blocking of traffic at 8:00 AM this morning.’

According to other sources, no one was injured after the blocks fell off the truck, with police conveying on site to address the situation.

Total ban on smoking in public spaces in Mexico

Mexico has just introduced one of the world’s strictest anti-tobacco laws as it banned smoking in all public spaces.

An already existing law in the country, which created smoke-free public spaces in restaurants, bars and even workspaces, has just been extended to an outright ban on smoking in public spaces.

These now include parks, hotels, beaches and even offices, with people now forced to only smoke at home or in other private residences.

The law has also banned advertising tobacco products, which means that cigarettes cannot be on show inside shops. Vapes and e-cigarettes have also gone tightening of restrictions against them.

The step was welcomed by the Pan American Health Organisation, applauding the Mexican government for implementing the ban.

Some smokers have grown dismayed at the law, with some highlighting the practicalities of enforcing the law. With police corruption in Mexico, many are fearing that instead of issuing real fines or punishments, some officers will use this as pretext for taking bribes.

Maltese football supporters in the stands of the Manchester United vs Manchester City match at Old Trafford got a chance to snap footage of the incredible Marcus Rashford goal.

Manchester United staged a late turnaround to beat Manchester City in a dramatic derby.

And these Maltese football fans got to capture the exact moment the ball found the net, with the recovery slow but assured under Ten Hag. The final whistle brought much jubilation for the fans of the team, as Rashford recovered from two first-half misses to kick the ball past City keeper Ederson for the winning goal.

Miss USA R’Bonney Gabriel wins 71st edition of Miss Universe

R’Bonney Gabriel, a sewing instructor and model hailing from Texas, was crowned Miss Universe on Saturday, with competition officials saying that she is the first Filipino American to win Miss USA.

Coming up against runner-up Miss Venezuela, Amanda Dudamel, Gabriel’s name was announced as the winner of the 71st edition of the beauty pageant.

Handed a bouquet of flowers, she was draped in the iconic winner’s sash and crowned with a tiara on the stage of the competition held in New Orleans. During the Q&A at the last stage of the competition, Gabriel revealed that she would intend to use the Miss Universe win to become a transformational leader.

She intends to do so by continuing her work of using recycled materials in hr fashion design as well as teaching sewing to survivors of human trafficking and domestic violence.

Up to 90 contestants competed in this year’s edition of the competition, with Malta’s very own Maxine Formosa Gruppetta representing the island this year. Gruppetta won Miss Congeniality, an award given to contestants who inspire others with their energy and kindness.
