Lewis Hamilton has Covid-19 scare after eventful race

Yesterday afternoon, one of the craziest Formula One races happened as French driver Esteban Ocon won his first ever grand prix. The win was also the team’s first race win as Alpine, after the French team rebranded their entire team from Renault this year. Teammate Fernando Alonso, who was celebrating his 40th birthday, won driver of the day.

Lewis Hamilton who had to regain 11 positions to get a 3rd place finish, later in the press conference revealed that he still feels the effects of Covid-19, even though he had it last December. He said that after the intense race he felt dizzy and felt fatigue, symptoms he felt when sick with the coronavirus. Meanwhile Aston Martin driver Sebastian Vettel, who finished 2nd had to disqualify after only sampling 0.3l of his fuel not the mandatory 1l

The race started in a chaotic way, with unexpected rain and a red flag in the first lap as a late brake from Mercedes driver Bottas caused many drivers such as Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc to retire and other drivers, most notably Max Verstappen to lose many places. The race than continued but weirdly enough, Lewis was the only driver not to start from the pits. This caused him in having to go to the pits again a lap later which meant that he would be in last position. Many drivers such as Esteban Ocon and Nicholas Latifi took their opportunities and finished in historic positions for their respective teams.

We wish Lewis to get well soon for his next race in Belgium, and a big congratulations to Alpine and Esteban Ocon.

Man shaves his hair and gathers €3,000 for SPCA Gozo

An anonymous man decided to cut his long, lustrous hair and gather up to €3,000 in donations for SPCA Gozo. The generous refashioning, which was done by Gary’s barbers Nadur and Mahrag bar, was spectated by several people who donated to the charity which will in turn help animals all across Gozo. The generosity and humility were well praised by many on social media.

The NGO was gifted €3,000 in donations by this kind man’s gesture, who delighted in his charitable offer and refashioning. The transformation itself was an event to behold as the anonymous donator went from having long-grey hair to a clean cut style, after which he enjoyed a cool beer at the bar.

Elaine Thompson-Herah breaks 100m Olympic record

Jamaican athlete Elaine Thompson-Herah on Saturday broke the women’s 100m Olympic record. Jamaica dominated the event as all podium places were made up of Jamaican athletes. Elaine broke Florence Griffith Joyner’s record of 10.62 seconds by recording a time 10.61 seconds, a measly difference of 0.01 seconds. Fellow Jamaicans Shelly Fraser Pryce and Shericka Jackson came in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Thompson also competes in the 200m and 4x100m relay. In the previous Olympics she was the breakout star, winning two gold medals in the 100 and 200 meter races and helping Jamaica get a silver medal in the 4x100m relay race. That made her the first female Jamaican sprinter to win both 100 and 200 meter races. This year she will be hoping to retain her 200m medal, and go one further with her relay teammates and emulate Jamaican hero Usain Bolt in winning gold in all three events.

British gold medalist caught knitting in stands

British diving gold medalist Tom Daley recently, was spotted knitting at the women’s springboard diving final. On an Instagram story, he later revealed that knitting helps him relieve stress and find mindfulness whiten himself. He also revealed that the pink and purple pouch, he was caught making, was in fact a jumper for his dog Izzy. He also has his own knitting devoted Instagram page, which has amassed over 415,000 followers.

Tom has been a main figure in the British Olympic scene, ever since the 2008 Beijing Olympics when he debuted as a 14 year-old. He also went on to represent his country in all the following Olympics and many official tournaments. He also became a TV personality, when in 2012 ITV, approached him with a role in their reality show, Splash! where celebrities are taught how to dive.

Tom inspired many young LGBT athletes when he won his first ever gold medal, this summer. In a press conference after, he said “I feel incredibly proud to say that I am a gay man and also an Olympic champion. When I was younger I didn’t think I’d ever achieve anything because of who I was. To be an Olympic champion now just shows that you can achieve anything.”
