It’s been 25 years since the iconic Maltese TV show Simpatiċi first graced our screens. On September 28, 1999, the debut episode, titled “Tard,” aired on Super One TV, scripted by Lino Grech and based on a story by Frida and Hermann. From the very beginning, Simpatiċi captured the hearts of the Maltese public with its relatable characters like Nanna Katrin, Jason, and Buttons.
The day after the premiere, the show received overwhelming praise, with viewers quickly taking to its humour and charm. In a recent post on Simpatiċi’s Facebook page, it was revealed that advertisers scrambled to get their products showcased during the show, which can only showcase Simpatiċi’s instant success.
Fast forward 25 years, and the show’s legacy is stronger than ever. Recently, Simpatiċi won two prestigious awards from GO Tokis for “Favorite Program Over the Years” and “Most Watched Program,” proving its enduring appeal.
A heartfelt message posted on the show’s Facebook page expressed gratitude to everyone involved in the show’s success, from the cast and crew to the loyal viewers. Simpatiċi has undoubtedly become a cornerstone of Maltese television history—and it’s showing no signs of fading.
