This evening, the Labour Party’s set of electoral proposals were approved during the party’s manifesto launch event. Addressed by Labour Party president Ramona Attard, PL Deputy Leader Daniel Jose Micallef and Prime Minister Robert Abela and others, the Party put forward a number of electoral proposals going into the March 26th election.

Amongst others, the Labour Party has presented a number of proposals in favour of ‘a digital Malta’, with the first proposal in this manifesto section highlighting that a Labour government will invest in digital infrastructure and human resource while prioritising quantum computing, deep tech, artificial intelligence and robotics. Similar to one of the Nationalist Party’s main electoral pillars, that being the ’10 economic sectors’, Labour pledges to invest further into the country’s digital landscape by focusing on digital connectivity solutions such as artificial intelligence and the ‘internet of things’.

For individuals seeking private courses in coding, the Labour Party is also proposing a €1,000 refund for those applying. With regards to diversification, a proposal in particular mentions development in the gaming sector, with initiatives including a ‘boot camp’ aimed at attracting start-up businesses in sectors such as eSports and video game development.

Highlighting his party’s ‘track record’, Robert Abela stated that with the trust of the people, he will see that the entire plan is enacted during his first mandate.

During his speech, Robert Abela also mentioned the coming out of the pandemic, Malta had the largest economic growth in Europe and the lowest rate of unemployment.

‘Robert Abela found me by his side whilst the PN’s leadership campaign led to conflict’, says Fearne

'Robert Abela found me by his side whilst the PN's leadership campaign led to conflict', says Fearne

“During the past legislature, there was one thing which both parties had in common… both parties had a leadership content for the one who leads them. The similarity stops there, as while the Nationalist Party’s leadership campaign lead to internal conflict (…) Labour’s leadership campaign lead to Robert Abela finding me by his side.”

These were the words of Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Chris Fearne during the Labour Party’s manifesto launch event. Fearne kicked off the event with a note on the Labour Party’s ‘dream’ going into the March 26 general election. What followed is a brief overview of certain Labour  party proposals which consider students, the elderly, children and more.

Amongst other proposals, Fearne highlighted Labour’s pledge to continue to increase stipend for students, a decrease in taxes for workers and employers, an amendment to local IVF law to allow Maltese couples to become parents in their own country and more.
