The University of Malta’s Kunsill Studenti Universitarji (KSU) has issued an apology following the controversy surrounding their actions during Freshers’ Week, which impacted the stands of both Moviment Graffitti and The Life Network Foundation.
KSU acknowledged that their decision to prevent Life Network Foundation from participating, alongside actions taken regarding Moviment Graffitti’s stand, unintentionally stifled debate and caused public outrage.
In a statement posted on their official page, KSU expressed regret over the situation, clarifying that censorship and stigmatisation were never their intentions. Their aim had been to foster a serene environment conducive to civilised conversation but, in doing so, an important discussion was hindered. The student council emphasised that the University campus should remain a forum for open debate.
KSU further announced plans to launch a student assembly, inviting all student organisations to participate in a broader debate on the issue. The assembly will aim to develop an official position for the council to adopt. This process is expected to conclude by the end of the current academic year, ensuring that the university remains a space for constructive and inclusive discourse.
