Preparations for traditional Easter treats, including the beloved Qagħaq tal-Appostli and Figolli, are well underway at the Corradino Correctional Facility in Kordin.
Every year, the public eagerly lines up outside the prison to get their hands on the baked goods made by inmates—treats that have built a strong reputation across Malta for their quality and taste.
With Easter falling this Sunday, inmates and correctional officers have come together to continue this heartfelt tradition, producing seasonal favourites for the Maltese community.
Prime Minister Robert Abela, accompanied by his wife Lydia Abela and Minister for Home Affairs Byron Camilleri, visited the Prison Bakery to witness the preparations firsthand. They were welcomed by Christopher Siegersma, CEO of the Correctional Services Agency, who led a tour of the bakery and its operations.
The prison bakery was inaugurated over 45 years ago and continues to train inmates in baking and trade skills while supplying bread for both inmates and staff.
