Konrad Mizzi remains in hospital recovering from a serious illness. He will be missing another parliamentary committee meeting on Wednesday which was meant to question him over the Electrogas deal.

Times of Malta was informed by sources that it is unlikely that Mizzi will appear before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) until after the new year. Only three sittings remain before the House goes into its Christmas recess.

Mizzi is not expected to have fully recovered before then, with the next two PAC meetings hearing the testimony of shareholder Paul Apap Bologna instead. Mizzi was admitted to hospital earlier this month with fever and peritonitis.

On admission, his condition was deemed potentially life threatening by medical staff. The PAC was meant to hear Mizzi’s testimony as part of its probe into the Electrogas power station deal, which is filled with allegations of corruption.

Girl who voiced giant Squid Game doll not allowed to watch show

Despite Squid Game being Netflix’s biggest show ever, a cultural debate over whether young kids should be allowed to watch the gory show also struck the internet.And ironically enough, Reagan To, the ten year old girl who voiced the giant Red Light Green Light doll in the English language dub of the series, isn’t being allowed to watch the series by her parents.

The young voice actress spoke to The Morning Show in Australia through video chat, saying that she hasn’t watched any of it. ‘My mum has shown me just a little bit but right before the violent part she just dropped it. And even my brother, he’s fourteen, and my parents don’t even allow him to watch it.’

Even those who haven’t watched the series have a semblance of what the Red Light Green Light scene consisted of. Some schools even raised concerns over kids playing non-murderous but still problematic versions of the game on the yard. The TV show hosts however went on to play an online stream version with Reagan to finish off the programme. She was a massive sport despite not having watched any of it. Who knows whether she’ll get a voice cameo in season 2.

The world’s highest 360-degree infinity pool opens in Dubai

Dubai continues to break world records in terms of its tourist attractions as it opens the first and highest 360-degree infinity pool.The luxury swimming area has opened at the Palm Tower, a hotel and residential building from developer Nakheel which offers stunning views of the Dubai skyline.

Aura Skypool is set at the height of 200 meters and encompasses a 750-square-meter pool deck on the 50th floor of the landmark. It is being described as an island in the sky, with the space featuring a lounge filled with VIP sun beds and a bar serving cocktail and tapas dishes.

Those wishing to dip in the pool can book a morning or sunset session, with day tickets being available for visitors as well. The entry fee starts at $56 for mornings and $163 for a full day VIP island. CEO of Sunset Hospitality Antonio Gonzalez said that Aura is truly unlike any other destination in the UAE and the world with its views of some the world’s most iconic sights.

A target of 65,000 electric cars on Maltese roads by 2030

The government’s target is to have up to 65,000 electric cars on the road by the year 2030, revealed Environment Minister Aaron Farrugia. As part of the government’s carbon reduction strategy, the Minister also added that the cash grant of €11,000 announced in the budget will assist in bringing about this cultural and sustainable change.

Speaking during a debate with Opposition environment spokesperson Robert Cutajar on TVM News Plus’ Xtra, Farrugia highlighted how experts have said that electric cars will reach price parity with conventional cars by the year 2025. This will make them more accessible but until then, the goal is to encourage change through a generous cash grant.

The Minister also defended Malta’s negotiating stance with the European Commission. This is to lower its target to reduce carbon emissions to 19% from 30% by 2030. The reduced target would cost Malta up to €2 billion to achieve. For Farrugia, the goal is not to risk burdening people and making the industry uncompetitive when ‘we are the least polluting member state in the EU.’

The Opposition MP disagreed, with Cutajar insisting that the target should be at a more ambitious 30%. Farrugia accused the Opposition of making declarations about carbon reduction targets without having a costed plan.
