Kazuyoshi Miura, known as “King Kazu,” continues to make history as he joins Portuguese club Oliveirense on loan just a month before his 56th birthday.
The former Japan international has had a remarkable career spanning 38 seasons and six different countries, including Brazil, Japan, Italy, Croatia, and Australia.
Miura began his professional journey in 1986 at Brazilian club Santos and returned to Japan to lead Verdy Kawasaki to back-to-back titles when the J-League launched in 1993.
He became the first Japanese player to play in the Italian Serie A and is the second-highest scorer for the Japan national team.
Miura has been with Yokohama FC or on loan from them for 19 seasons and recently played for Suzuka Point Getters, managed by his brother.
In 2017, he made history by becoming the oldest player to score in a professional match and helped Yokohama secure promotion to the top division in Japan in 2019.
“King Kazu” has promised to bring his unique style of football to his new surroundings at Oliveirense.
