At a Buckingham Palace reception, New Zealand women’s rugby player Ayesha Leti-I’iga surprised King Charles III by asking for a hug.

The Black Ferns are in the UK to face England’s Red Roses at Twickenham on Saturday. Their visit to Buckingham Palace was part of a special honor for the team.

In other royal news, King Charles and Queen Camilla are set to travel to Australia and Samoa from October 18 to 26, 2024.

Initially taken aback, the King responded with a warm “why not,” prompting Leti-I’iga and a group of her teammates to affectionately surround him.

The spontaneous moment left the King amused, and he later joked with the players, saying, “It felt like being flattened by a scrum.” The lighthearted encounter added a memorable touch to the event, showing the players’ camaraderie and the King’s good-natured sense of humor.
