Rafael Nadal wins record breaking 21st Grand Slam

Rafael Nadal came back from 2 sets down to beat Daniil Medvedev and win the Australian Open. This win will surely mean a lot to the Spaniard as it means that he finally beat eternal rivals Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic to a record breaking 21st Grand Slam win.

Nadal looked down and dusted as Russian Daniil Medvedev won the first 2 sets, winning the first one with a convincing score of 2-6 whilst the second set was very tight with Daniil edging it out, 6-7.  The legendary player managed to overcome his opponent in the next 3 rounds with scores of 6-4,6-4 and 7-5, to win his second Australian Open.

This is his first Australian Open win in 13 years and first Grand Slam win since the Italy Open in May of 2021. Last year wasn’t the best of years for Rafael as he suffered a career risking foot injury which saw him miss Wimbledon, the Olympics and the US Open. After his historic win Rafael told reporters “Without a doubt it is one of the most emotional wins of my career,”

Man Utd’s Mason Greenwood accused of domestic violence by girlfriend

Manchester United sensation Mason Greenwood has been accused of domestic violence by model girlfriend Harriet Robson. 

These accusations came from numerous posts on her Instagram, which included shocking photos of her face covered in blood and multiple bruises.

Harriet also revealed on her social media a disgraceful recording of Greenwood forcing her to have sexual intercourse with him, threatening her if she refused. 

 

His club Manchester United have released a statement saying that they are “aware of images and allegations circulating on social media.” They also stated that they would not further comment until “the facts have been established”.  

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester also confirmed that ‘Greater Manchester Police is aware of images and videos circulating on social media. His football boots sponsor Nike stated that the company was ‘deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations’. 

Greenwood, a 20-year-old United academy graduate who made 130 appearances for the club, scored a total of 36 goals. He remains in custody, with Man Utd saying that he would not be returning to training or match until further notice.

A machine operator who lost his finger in a factory incident will be compensated €81,000 after the Court of Malta held the company responsible for 85 per cent of the incident which occurred on April 16 in 2015.

The worker reportedly had his hand caught in the factory apparatus and had to remove his finger via operation as a result. The worker and his wife opened a court case against the company in Malta’s civil court, where the Court held the company responsible for the incident. The victim had been working on the company for 16 years, highlighting the issue with ongoing pressure in his place of work due to the high demand of doors which had to be produced. He went on to mention that a co-worker of his lost his life in the same place only seven weeks after the initial incident.

With regards to the incident, the Court ruled that the company faulted by putting the safety responsibility on the machine operators, with judge Lawrence Mintoff stating that the company should have provided machinery equipped with the best safety features.

When working out compensation, judge Mintoff stated that the victim was 39 years old when the incident took place, leaving the individual with a permanent disability of 28 per cent.
