Gender quota bill way for parties to get an additional six minions – Cacopardo

Apr 15 2021 Share

After Malta historically approved the gender quota bill in parliament on Wednesday, with 63 MPs in favour and two against, the ADPD and chairperson Carmel Cacopardo stated that this bill is only a mechanism for the big parties to further occupy politics.

Cacopardo stated that “there is nothing historic in the manipulation of the electoral system”, going on to highlight that the PL and PN only benefit from the measure as ‘the parties get an additional six minions each’.

Spokesperson Sandra Gauci claimed that “no other country in democratic Europe” manipulates the system in the way that the PNPL do in Malta.
