Kanye West first artist in history to have 10 albums streamed more than 1 billion times

Kanye West is no stranger to massive achievements, but his game changing album 808s & Heartbreaks managed to register more than a billion Spotify streams.

This means that West, now legally named Ye, has become the first artist in history to have 10 studio albums to be streamed a billion times each on the platform.

Ye has around 46 million active listeners on his Spotify account every month, with most artists settling for having a single song reach a billion streams.

The albums in this list are College Dropout, Late Registration, Graduation, 808s, Yeezus, My Beautiful Dark Twist Fantasy, Watch The Throne, The Life of Pablo, Ye, and Donda.

The rapper managed to do that a whopping 10 times across 10 different studio albums. Only Jesus is King, Kids See Ghosts and collaboration album Cruel Summer haven’t yet reached a billion streams.

To make matters more impressive, more than half of the albums in the list came out before the streaming era had kicked off. Donda, his latest project, got a billion streams within just a few weeks of release. He is followed by Eminem and Drake.

Police seize 1kg of cocaine and 15kg cannabis off Italian man

Following several days of investigations and observations by Malta’s anti-drug police squad, a 29-year-old Italian man was arrested over the possession of a large amount of drugs.

The man, resident of San Pawl il-Bahar, was approached by police on Wednesday. The police found 15kg of cannabis and 1kg of cocaine in his garage, amounting to a total value of €450,000. Around €250,000 in cash was also discovered.

Just days after parliament approved legalisation for the personal use of cannabis, drug trafficking will still remain illegal under the new rules. Magistrate Caroline Farrugia Frendo is overseeing the inquiry.

WATCH: President speaks out about calls to block Cannabis Bill

With the last remaining step to pass the Cannabis Bill being the President’s signature, George Vella has shut down calls for him not to sign the approved law.

During a speech in Gozo on Friday during a commemoration of Republic Day, the President outline the roles a president has in a parliamentary democratic society.

‘We hear calls that the president should do this and that but we need to be informed of what is possible’ he said.

‘The head of state cannot capriciously create a constitutional crisis and cause instability […] there is nothing in our Constitution that gives the president the final say on a law, otherwise we will create a dictator who decides what becomes law at a whim’.

Despite not directly mentioning the cannabis legislation which was approved on Tuesday, the message was undeniably directed at the oppositional voices sounding against it.

The Nationalist Party voted against the law, backed up by over 50 church-led organisations and individuals. Even former prime minister Lawrence Gonzi called for a commitment by his party to see the law repealed.

The President emphasised how laws passed in parliament need to be signed by him almost immediately because otherwise he would be taking on all the power.

‘The president has no power to ignore a law passed by parliament irrespective if he agrees with it or not…unless he has a serious moral objection in which case the President will have to call it a day and resign.’

29-year-old arrested after police discover cocaine, cannabis & around €250,000 cash

A 29-year-old Italian man who has been living in Malta for the past 9 years has been taken to court charged with the trafficking and possession of cocaine and cannabis along with money laundering. The prosecution explained to the police that it was following a group of people over suspicion of illegal activity.

29-year-old Gennaro Russo, who is originally from Naples, was arrested when the police stopped his car in Naxxar following an arrest mandate. When searching the vehicle, the police found a number of drug sachets and around €20,000 in cash. Later, in a search of his home and garage in Qawra, the police found more drugs, cash and objects related to drug trafficking such as sachets.

More drugs were found in an Imsida garage which Russo had the keys to and yet another Qawra garage where the police found more empty sachets with traces of drugs and luggage with €215,000 in cash inside. They also found a weapon case with ammunition inside but did not find a weapon.

A total of 1.5 kilograms of cocaine and 15 kilos of cannabis along with around €250,000 in cash were found in the search, all of which are being submitted into the magisterial inquiry. From ongoing investigations, Russo and his partner were arrest and the police have stated that they do not exclude further arrests.
