New Signs In Swieqi Urge Public To Dress Decently And Keep Noise Down

New Signs In Swieqi Urge Public To Dress Decently And Keep Noise Down
Jun 3 2025 Share

Swieqi Local Council has begun taking concrete steps to improve safety and respect in the locality, starting with the installation of new signs aimed at promoting security and public order.

Deputy Mayor Jordan Galea Pace stated, “From words to action. Swieqi residents are our priority.” His comments follow recent concerns raised by residents over loud music and inappropriate behaviour in public spaces.

Last week, Galea Pace posted a TikTok video where he is seen addressing a group of individuals on the street. In the video, he politely asks them to lower their music volume out of respect for nearby residents. He also highlighted concerns over public decency, reminding people that being shirtless in public is not acceptable unless they are near a beach.

These local actions come as a national discussion unfolds around public attire. According to Net News, Minister for Home Affairs Byron Camilleri confirmed in Parliament that the Police Force is not currently taking action against people wearing swimwear in public streets across Malta and Gozo. The question was raised by Nationalist MP Graziella Galea, who asked how public decency laws are being enforced.

What do you think of this?
