After months upon months of anticipation for Malta’s appearance in one of the biggest blockbuster movies in recent history, Jurassic World: Dominion finally hits the theatres. Following the destruction of Isla Nublar, humans and dinosaurs will have to coexist in an attempt to preserve the future of mankind. With a star-studded cast, compelling story and absolutely unreal visual effects, Jurassic World is definitely one to watch.

Elvis

Ever since we got the first look of the charismatic Austin Butler portraying one of the greatest musicians of all-time in Elvis Presley, we couldn’t wait to see what the Elvis film will look like and it’s finally here. With the trailer alone sending chills down our spines, complemented by a stunning 12-minute standing ovation at Cannes and an unparalleled soundtrack with some of the industry’s biggest names, Elvis looks like it could be one of this year’s biggest biopics.

Lightyear

Everyone’s favourite space ranger extraordinaire returns to the big screen in ways we have never seen him before. After winning our hearts as the action figure, 2022’s Lightyear will explore the story of the original Buzz Lightyear as he travels the depths of space. Join Chris Evans’ Buzz, James Brolin’s ultra-villainous Zurg, Keke Palmer’s Izzy Hawthorne and an intergalactic cast of beloved characters in their journey to infinity and beyond.

Top Gun: Maverick

From a bold, box office smash in 1984 to a global phenomenon in 2022, it seems like Top Gun: Maverick carries more prestige than any other Top Gun movie in history. Tom Cruise’s Captain Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell returns to the skies for a high-octane, action packed flick which will breathe new life into the Top Gun franchise. If you’re a lover of the original, adore action movies or simply stan the legend that it is Tom Cruise, head to the Embassy Cinemas to watch this one ASAP.

George Ezra, Noel Gallagher, Disclosure & more in Malta for exclusive gaming event

A star-studded line-up of international artists was flown in to Malta for a super exclusive two-day gaming event attended by around 800 people and organised by gaming company Gala.

The ‘Galaverse’ event saw performances from former Oasis singer Noel Gallagher, Phoenix, George Ezra, Disclosure, Tom Misch, Bassjackers, Disclosure, Editors and many more. The event also screened a special video message from rap supergroup Mount Westmore, consisting of Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, E-40 & Too Short.

The event was restricted to 800 attendees, with tickets going for a cool $8,000 a pop not including flights. The event allowed Gala and a number of other gaming partners to showcase new games and products which will hit the market in the coming days.

President and CEO of Volo Events Charles Marto revealed that his company had to hire a crew of 500 specialised individuals to build the sets and worlds, with 125 containers of material required to bring the ideas to life.

41% of Maltese youths intentionally bought fake brands over the past year

Information published by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) has revealed that in Malta, 41% of young people intentionally bought fake brands over the past year.

The 2022 edition of the Intellectual Property and Youth Scoreboard highlighted that the two main factors behind this increase in intentional purchasing of counterfeits were price and availability, also shining a light on the fact that peer and social influence have an increasingly important role.

The most common intentionally-bought products were clothes and accessories (17%), followed by footwear (14%), electronic devices (13%) and hygiene, cosmetics, personal care and perfumes (12%).

However, it is also to be noted that young people are also misled into buying fakes, with the unintentional purchasing of fake products and brands standing at 37% due to difficulties in distinguishing genuine products from counterfeits.

Natalia Galea crowned winner of 25th edition of Miss World Malta

Natalia Galea has been officially crowned winner of this year’s Miss World Malta as the prestigious local modelling competition comes to its much-anticipated conclusion.

In an Instagram post following her victory, Galea thanked her sponsors, correspondents, friends, family and boyfriend for their support, going on to state that she will do her “absolute best to keep the crown in Europe”.

This is not Galea’s first foray into local modelling, previously taking part in various competitions since 2015 such as Miss Mediterranean 2019 & Miss Supranational 2018, amongst other competitions.

Galea’s final gown was inspired by ‘a fusion of the national soul of Malta’. In a recent Instagram post, it was revealed that “the top is bead embroidered with wings of the blue rock thrush bird, making it a perfect symbol to soar success while the skirt is a purely handcrafted glass bead fringes imitating the National Flower Maltese Centaury depicting the blossoming of new beginnings.”
