Journalists Now Offered Free Psychological Support

Journalists Now Offered Free Psychological Support
Oct 2 2023 Share

With the support of the Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation, SOS Malta has launched a new initiative which offers free psychological support for journalists who need it.

Through Kellimni.com, seven psychologists have been vetted and trained by media experts specifically on the kind of support that journalists would require.

With no charge for the service, journalists would have to simply contact the psychologists through Kellimnni.com, anonymously if they wish, to receive the support they need.

The idea for the project was born from a seminar that the Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation hosted with Repubblika, on free speech and the protection of journalists, which was organised with the support of the US Embassy Valletta, Malta.

The Malta Football Players Association (MFPA) and the Malta Football Association have joined forces to revolutionise women’s football in Malta.

In a groundbreaking move, they’ve revised the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for players in the national women’s football team, building on the initial agreement inked in 2021.

This revamped MOU marks a monumental leap forward, addressing crucial aspects such as maternal and early childhood support policies, alignment with FIFA’s human rights standards, financial compensation for the UEFA Women’s Nations League, expedited medical procedures for injuries requiring surgery, and improved incentives for women players on the senior national squad.

Emma Lipman, captain of Malta’s women’s national team, expressed enthusiasm for the updated MOU, recognising it as a pivotal advancement. She emphasised the growing recognition and dedication of women in football and their pursuit of equal recognition.

Anthony Galea, MFPA President, affirmed their commitment to securing better conditions for women in football. He hailed the players as outstanding ambassadors, pushing boundaries for the national team’s success. The MFPA stands firmly behind women’s football, a key focus of their strategic plan for 2023-2026.

Both associations are now poised to propel women’s football in Malta to unprecedented heights, solidifying their commitment to equality and recognition in the beautiful game.

Injured Flamingo Rescued Off Gozo Coast

Injured Flamingo Rescued Off Gozo Coast

Birdlife Malta took to social media to share a video of an adult greater flamingo which was rescued from Gozo.

‘The bird was found swimming at sea off the Gozo coast between Xlendi and Ta’ Ċenċ and was brought to shore with the assistance of members of the public’, Birdlife revealed.

‘The targeting of such charismatic species is rife more than ever as the migration of various species peaks during these days. Such illegal hunting occurs for the sole purpose of taxidermy collections with specimens numbering hundreds of thousands amongst the hunting community.’

The NGO wrote how due to recent changes in legislation, ‘such killings if undetected by police end up in taxidermy collections and end up as non-prosecutable collections under the guise of legalised transfers from one hunter to another.’

‘The situation with illegal hunting is in a dire state and the permitted persecution of protected species is having a direct toll on conservation efforts on these birds incoming from mainland Europe.’
