The 2025 Championship Final between Ħamrun Spartans and Birkirkara set a new record for football viewership in Malta, with an impressive 76,000 TV box sets tuning in to watch the match live on TVM Sport+ on Saturday, May 10.

With an estimated average of two viewers per household, this translates to approximately 150,000 television viewers. An additional 12,000 viewers streamed the match online, pushing the total audience well beyond 160,000.

This landmark achievement secured a 36% audience share, making it the most-watched programme during its time slot and even outperforming Malta’s main TV channels—TVM, NET, and ONE—between 6pm and 8pm.

The strong viewership figures are a testament to the concerted efforts of the Malta Premier League and PBS leadership, who have worked hard in recent weeks to enhance broadcast quality and viewer experience.

Key improvements, including a more structured pre-match broadcast, a professional temporary studio setup at the North Stand, and dynamic live coverage, played a crucial role in engaging a wider audience.

The consistent rise in viewer numbers during the final weeks of the 360Sports Malta Premier season clearly reflected growing public interest, culminating in this record-breaking finale.

The success also extended to digital platforms, with Malta Premier’s social media seeing significant growth in engagement and reach.
