Speaking during an interview with Times of Malta, former prime minister Joseph Muscat broke the silence and stated that he does not rule out a return to politics, albeit in a non-leadership role. After resigning 19 months ago, following the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia and the ensuing scandal, Muscat stated that if people keep annoying him, he just might go for it. This is because people continuously say Muscat will contest, so he revealed that he doesn’t exclude it.
He did clarify however that he wouldn’t make any future bid to become party leader. He said that it’s too early in his career, being 47, and that there’s ‘still more to say and do.’ The former prime minister, who won the election twice with majority votes, says that there are still Labour supporters who have called for his dismissal from the party. He acknowledges their right to express themselves and that there is a lot of support.
