Johnson to introduce tighter COVID-19 measures to control virus spread

In a recent appearance on a BBC talk show, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced an increase in COVID-19 restrictions in order to mitigate the spread of the virus.

As hospital patients rise and cases continue to surge in England, Johnson is committed to doing whatever is necessary to control the spread of the virus and tighter tier 4 restrictions are expected.

While not considering a year in lockdown due to the damaging effects on the economy and mental health, Johnson stated that the arrival of the vaccine is something which will give people hope.

Zurrieq man who bit and stabbed wife on New Year’s Day denied bail

A 58-year-old pensioner from Zurrieq is in custody and being charged for stabbing his wife on New Year’s Day.

The couple had returned home around 3am after a turbulent New Year’s Eve outing and continued to argue in the late hours, where the accused bit his wife and went on to stab her with a kitchen knife.

The man was also charged with harassment and misusing electronic telecommunications equipment and pleaded not guilty to the charges, and while bail was requested, it was not granted.

Doctors raise concerns about slow rollout of COVID-19 vaccine

With around 1,400 Maltese citizens having been vaccinated during the first week of the vaccine rollout and weekly vaccinations anticipated to increase to as much as 2,000 weekly, authorities plan on Malta having ‘herd immunity’ towards the beginning of summer.

In a recent Twitter post, Health Minister Chris Fearne shared an infographic of countries’ vaccine doses per 100, placing Malta towards the top of the table yet, while seemingly being ‘on target’ President of Medical Association of Malta (MAM) shared his worrying two cents.

He lamented the fact that if the plan was to achieve herd immunity by May, our efforts are still lacking and pointed out that more effort is to be made to administer the vaccines more efficiently.

Darrin Zammit Lupi’s daughter loses battle with cancer

Darrin Zammit Lupi’s daughter passed away on Sunday. Rebecca fought a very brave battle against a rare form of cancer called Ewing’s Sarcoma.

Rebecca’s father chronicled his daughter’s fight by means of photography in order to have a record of his daughter’s strength and he also wanted others found in a similar situation to be empowered.

Condolences have been flooding to Rebecca’s parents.

Rebecca, may you rest in peace, you are a warrior!
