JobsPlus Question Of How Many Food Couriers are Registered in Malta

The Honorable David Agius inquired about the number of food couriers registered with Jobsplus, asking for a breakdown between Maltese and foreign workers.

In response, the Honorable Byron Camilleri, Minister for the Interior, Security, and Work, clarified that employment statistics are classified according to the International Standard Classification of Employment (ISCO-08), which does not specifically categorize ‘food couriers.’

Using related job titles, data from January 2024 shows 3,617 workers in roles potentially including food couriers: 569 Maltese, 221 from EU countries, and 2,827 from third-world countries.

This classification includes:

8321: Motorcyclists
8322: Car, van, or motorcycle drivers
9621: Messengers, couriers, porters, and porters

English FA Reveal Requirements Needed To Succeed Gareth Southgate

Following Gareth Southgate’s shock departure from his role as head coach of the English national team, the English FA have revealed the requirements needed to succeed Southgate.

The FA are encouraging those interested in the job to apply online. There have been many rumours as to who will replace Southgate with names such as Under 21 boss Lee Carsley, ex-Chelsea manager Graham Potter, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe and German Jurgen Klopp all being touted.

The first requirement is that every applicant must possess a UEFA Pro License with the second being that the applicant must have significant experience of English football, with a strong track record delivering results in the Premier League and/or leading international competitions.

The candidate also has to be an exceptional leader who understands and will enjoy the international football environment and has to be experienced in successfully identifying, managing and developing English qualified players.

The next man to lead the Three Lions has to be highly resilient and comfortable in a very high-profile role with intense public scrutiny and have a track record of creating a high performing, positive team culture and environment.

Finally the applicant must have strong personal values and integrity and understand and embrace the role that the England Men’s Senior Team Head Coach has inspiring the nation.

Msida Takes on Traditional Festa Gostra

The greasy pole is a traditional event dating back to the time of the Knights, started by Grand Master Marc’Antonio Zondadari in Malta in 1721. In Msida, this tradition of attempting to run to the end of a pole covered in fats and oils has been taking place for around 130 years, with multiple records being broken over the years. President of Msida’s Għaqda Gostra, Lee Spiteri, said the preparations start six months before, involving a call for participants, health and safety measures, and other logistical aspects.

Both children and adults alike are allowed to participate in this tradition. However, while both groups must attempt to catch three flags placed at different distances on the 16-meter greasy pole angled over the sea, the children’s version is not as slippery. The pole grease made for the children’s event contains only fat, soap, and flour to reduce the chances of children slipping and injuring themselves. However, the adult’s mixture consists of a higher fat content to make the pole more slippery.

The appeal of this tradition has diminished over the years, with the President of the Għaqda Ġostra Msida, Lee Spiteri, saying that the number of participants has decreased. While recognizing the challenges involved, he encourages parents to involve their children in more traditional events such as the greasy pole.

Barack Obama Praises Biden’s Decision To Exit Race

Former President Barack Obama has released a statement praising Biden’s term as President but also his decision to drop out from this year’s race against Republican nominee Donald Trump.

In a statement he called Biden “a patriot of the highest order” due to his selfless decision to stop his campaign and step down from being the Democratic nominee.

Unlike many other top Democratic officials and names such as Biden himself and the Clinton family, Barack and Michelle Obama did not endorse the current Vice-President Kamala Harris instead stating “We will be navigating uncharted waters in the days ahead. But I have extraordinary confidence that the leaders of our party will be able to create a process from which an outstanding nominee emerges.”

The former President continued by stating “Joe understands better than anyone the stakes in this election — how everything he has fought for throughout his life, and everything that the Democratic Party stands for, will be at risk if we allow Donald Trump back in the White House and give Republicans control of Congress.”

To further highlight Biden’s integrity and selflessness Obama had this to say “I also know Joe has never backed down from a fight. For him to look at the political landscape and decide that he should pass the torch to a new nominee is surely one of the toughest in his life. But I know he wouldn’t make this decision unless he believed it was right for America. It’s a testament to Joe Biden’s love of country — and a historic example of a genuine public servant once again putting the interests of the American people ahead of his own that future generations of leaders will do well to follow.”
