Joaquin Phoenix & Lady Gaga With First Musical Trailer For Joker Sequel

Joaquin Phoenix & Lady Gaga With First Musical Trailer For Joker Sequel
Apr 10 2024 Share

The upcoming movie “Joker: Folie à Deux” has launched its first trailer, featuring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga in a musical sequel to the original “Joker” film. Phoenix reprises his role as Arthur Fleck, an aspiring comedian who turns into the notorious villain, Joker, while Lady Gaga plays Dr. Harleen Quinzel, a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum.

Quinzel falls in love with Fleck, eventually becoming his partner in crime, Harley Quinn. The film’s title hints at a shared delusional disorder, marking a significant shift from its predecessor by embracing the musical genre, promising 15 song numbers, mainly covers of classic hits.

The trailer teases one such song, “What the World Needs Now Is Love,” contrasting the original film’s tone.

Returning cast members include Zazie Beetz alongside newcomers Brendan Gleeson, Steve Coogan, and Catherine Keener. Todd Phillips directs again, having once envisioned the Joker as a standalone project. Yet, the sequel’s development was driven by Phoenix’s captivating portrayal of Fleck, which earned him an Oscar.

The first “Joker” film was a monumental success, grossing over $1 billion and securing significant accolades, including two Oscars. “Joker: Folie à Deux” is slated for cinema release on October 4, extending the dark and complex world of its predecessor with a musical twist.
