Church Hands Over €25m Dar Saura To Youths With Disabilities

Jul 25 2024 Share

The Archdiocese of Malta has transferred the €25 million Dar Saura property to the Malta Trust Foundation. The iconic building in Rabat will be transformed into an empowerment hub for children and youths with disabilities.

Previously used as a home for the elderly, Dar Saura will be repurposed into a center for music and arts, as Villabianca relocates to a larger facility to accommodate more students and address its extensive waiting list.

The agreement was officially signed at a ceremony by Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna and Malta Trust Foundation chair Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca.

Archbishop Scicluna remarked, “The best use of church property is when it serves a social purpose, especially helping those who need the most support. I hope Dar Saura will become a state-of-the-art hub empowering children and youth with disabilities to engage with their skills and discover and nurture their full potential through music and the arts.”

Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, President emeritus and chair of the Malta Trust Foundation, expressed her vision, stating, “My dream is to see this hub become a one-stop-shop for families to see their children with disabilities thrive; a place where they can grow, develop their abilities, and be empowered to go out into the world.”

The Ta’ Saura Empowerment Hub is set to open in two years and will provide a new space for up to 500 students to practice music and the arts under professional guidance.
