Jean Pierre Cassar Outlines Struggles Faced By LGBTIQ+ Couples

Posting to TikTok, Jean Pierre Cassar outlined some of the struggles he and others in same-sex relationships had to or still face that many might take for granted.

‘If you never had to Google a country to see if it’s safe for travelling as a couple, you’re privileged’, he explained.

‘If you never felt anxious before going to a family wedding because you have a same-sex partner [and you’re worried about how your aunt, grandparents, uncle will react], you’re privileged’.

‘If you never cried yourself to sleep because you decided to come out to your parents the following day, you’re privileged.’

‘If you never Googled your feelings and your attractions because they felt totally normal, you’re privileged.’

This comes as Malta celebrates EuroPride Valletta, which offers the public various events, seminars and celebrations which aim to raise more awareness about the LGBTIQ+ community and celebrate love.

Cospicua & Vittoriosa Win 2023 Victory Day Regatta

Despite the strong winds making the race all the more difficult and managing to sink the boats of four teams, Cospicua and Vittoriosa emerged victorious for this year’s Victory Day Regatta.

Taking place in the Valletta Grand Harbour, Cospicua and Vittoriosa’s boats sank shortly after crossing the finish line.

Whereas Marsamxett managed to finish third, Marsa and Senglea’s boats also sank midway through the race, with their crews rescued by safety officials at the race.

Race officials had analysed whether the race could have taken place, with the earliest it could be postponed to being September 29th. However, due to the possibility of the weather being worse, the race was staged yesterday given that the weather seemed more promising earlier during the day.

The incidents did not stop the winners from celebrating however, returning to their respective clubs to enjoy their achievements.

Ambulance Crashes Into Parked Cars: 3 Grievously Injured

Yesterday, police were informed at around 1445hrs that a traffic accident had taken place in Triq il-Kanun, Ħal Qormi.

Police convened immediately on site and found, through preliminary investigations, that an ambulance driven by a 55 year old resident of Imqabba crashed into a parked truck.

As a consequence, the truck struck two other vehicles which were parked. On the front of the ambulance was another 54 year old man resident of Ħal Safi.

As a cause of the impact, the two men, both Emergency Ambulance Responders, got stuck by their legs and had to be taken out of the situation by Civil Protection Department officers.

On the back of the ambulance was a 35 year old nurse resident of Mosta as well as two women, aged 49 and 23, both residents of Dingli.

All the persons were given preliminary medical aid and later taken to Mater Dei via various ambulances for further aid.

Later, the 49 year old woman and the two Emergency Ambulance Responders were certified as having suffered grievous injuries. The other two persons were certified as having suffered light injuries.

Police investigations are ongoing.

St Anne’s Street in Floriana has undergone a stunning transformation, proudly displaying a sea of rainbow pride flags that stretch the entire length of the street. This vibrant makeover is in preparation for the highly anticipated EuroPride 2023 – Valletta, an international event celebrating LGBTQ+ pride.

The official opening ceremony, which took place yesterday at the MFCC in Ta’ Qali, marked the beginning of this historic event in Malta, drawing thousands of attendees and featuring captivating performances by both local and international celebrities.

EuroPride, a pan-European event dedicated to LGBTQ+ pride, is hosted by a different European city each year. This year, Malta has the honour of hosting this magnificent celebration for the first time. The festivities kicked off at the MFCC with an unforgettable opening ceremony and an after-party featuring the controversial Israeli singer, Netta.

From discussions on various LGBTQ+ issues to theatrical productions, musical events, and other forms of entertainment, the organisers have promised a jam-packed schedule for EuroPride 2023. The grand finale is scheduled for the 16th of September, when the EuroPride March will captivate the streets of Floriana and Valletta. The march promises a vibrant display of colours, boundless energy, and the unyielding spirit of the LGBTQIQ+ community and its allies.
