JD Patrick, co-host of the popular and controversial Maltese dark humour podcast Bajd u Bejken, has officially stepped down following backlash over transphobic jokes made about prominent activist Terry Muscat, also known as Terry Ta’ Bormla.

“Due to the recent backlash, I’ve made the decision to step away from the Bajd u Bejken podcast,” he wrote, thanking the team, Patreons, and fans for their support.

While affirming that the show’s intentions were never to offend, he acknowledged that humour is subjective and apologised for any hurt caused.

The Bajd u Bejken team responded briefly but warmly on social media, saying, “Man down… we love you brother.”

It remains unclear what the podcast’s future will look like, with the team promising an update in the coming days.

Minister Miriam Dalli Champions Sustainability Education at Birżebbuġa Primary

Minister for the Environment Miriam Dalli visited Birżebbuġa Primary School as part of WasteServ’s ongoing educational campaign aimed at promoting environmental awareness and responsible waste disposal among students.

The initiative, which includes schools across Malta, focuses on teaching children how to properly dispose of electronic waste and recyclables.

Minister Dalli engaged with students through interactive, hands-on activities such as games and storytelling, helping them understand how their daily choices impact the environment. The visit aimed to make sustainability education both fun and impactful.

She praised the efforts of WasteServ and school staff, stating, “Educating our children on sustainability is one of the most effective ways to secure a greener, safer future for all.”

The visit also highlighted WasteServ’s broader commitment to safety, including its recent investment in a dedicated fire engine.

This move comes in response to the increasing risks posed by the improper disposal of electronic waste, which can lead to dangerous fires if not handled correctly.

The public is urged to use Civic Amenity Sites or WasteServ’s Roadshow Truck for safe disposal of electronics. This initiative reflects Malta’s growing emphasis on environmental responsibility through education, infrastructure, and community outreach.

European Parliament Approves Water Resilience Strategy Led by Maltese MEP Thomas Bajada

May 7 2025 Share

The European Parliament has overwhelmingly approved the landmark Water Resilience Strategy, with a resounding absolute majority.

The strategy was spearheaded by Maltese MEP Thomas Bajada, who served as rapporteur on his first major report since taking office.

Bajada’s report places water at the heart of Europe’s environmental and social agenda, highlighting the urgent need to protect and manage clean, safe water as it becomes increasingly scarce across the continent.

In his address to Parliament, Bajada stressed that droughts, floods, and water crises are no longer isolated issues—they are a shared European reality.

The strategy calls for clean water security, public health safeguards, and sustainable food systems, while promoting European solidarity with regions most affected by water challenges.

One of the key achievements of the final text is a strengthened commitment to phasing out PFAS—harmful “forever chemicals”—from all non-essential uses.

“This is a victory for public health over politics,” Bajada said, calling for immediate action from the European Commission.

Drawing on Malta’s longstanding experience with water scarcity, he urged Europe to act now: “Water is life, and it is our duty to protect it—for our people, their health, and their future.”
