Maltese icon Jake Vella’s parents wished their son a heartfelt farewell, after he tragically passed away on the 30th of August.

Vella was an inspiration to every Maltese person, as even though he had been fighting an extremely rare condition that caused him to gain weight rapidly, he lived his life as a professional athlete eating healthy and training hard.

Jakes’s father, Josie Vella penned an emotional message to his son saying “Dearest Son, after 665 nights of sleeping by your side at Mater Dei Hospital, the moment has come where you slipped away from my grasp. For the past 10 years, this devastating illness that entered our lives had to take you from us. But take comfort in knowing that in just a few days, you will be home with us, where a place is ready for you, along with every award you’ve been recognized with.”

Maruska Vella, Jake’s mother, started her message stating that this is not a goodbye, but rather a see you later.

She continued on by stating that “Finally, you are free from all the pain that you have been suffering from for the last 10 years, especially those hard last few months. I can proudly say you fought till the very end, but now you are having a well deserved rest.”

“Jake, you made a huge impact not only in our life, but anyone that had the pleasure to know you. Your legacy will continue to live on.”
Maruska Vella ended her heartwarming message by thanking and expressing their gratitude towards all the medical staff, especially at the Disneyland and ITU ward as well as Dr. John Torpiano for not only being the best doctor possible but also Jake’s best friend.

Elon Musk’s Twitter Officially Banned In Brazil

Aug 31 2024 Share

X, previously known as Twitter, has been banned in Brazil for not complying with a Supreme Court judge’s deadline to appoint a new legal representative in the country.

Judge Alexandre de Moraes ordered the “immediate and complete suspension” of the social media platform until it complies with all court orders and pays the outstanding fines.

The dispute started in April when the judge ordered the suspension of dozens of X accounts for allegedly spreading disinformation.

Reacting to the decision, X owner Elon Musk said: “Free speech is the bedrock of democracy and an unelected pseudo-judge in Brazil is destroying it for political purposes.”

The social media network is said to be used by at least a 10th of the nation’s 200 million inhabitants.

By Saturday morning some users had reported access to the platform was no longer possible.

Justice Moraes ordered that X accounts accused of spreading disinformation—many of which belong to supporters of former right-wing president Jair Bolsonaro—must be blocked while under investigation.

He warned that the company’s legal representatives would be held accountable if any of these accounts were reactivated.

X has faced the threat of fines for failing to comply with this order, with both the company and Elon Musk joining critics in Brazil in accusing the judge of having a left-wing bias.

This incident is the latest in a series of disputes involving the tech billionaire, who has previously clashed with the EU over X’s regulation and recently engaged in a war of words with UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.
