An Iranian man who is assumed to be the dirtiest man in the world has passed away at the age of 94. Amou Haji did not wash for more than half a century over fears of ‘getting sick’.

Haji died on Sunday in the village of Dejgah in the southern province of Fars. A local official revealed that the man feared getting sick and thus avoided showering.

IRNA news agency however reported that villagers had taken him to a bathroom to wash for the first time a few months ago before his passing away.

A short documentary film was made about his life in 2013 titled ‘The Strange Life of Amou Haji’. It is unsure what really urged him to follow such a lifestyle, with many thinking he is afraid of water.

Haji also disclosed to reporters prior to his death that his favourite food was rotten porcupine meat as he feeds himself off of roadkill. He also used to become very upset when clean water and home-cooked meals were brought to him.
