IVF Clinic To Close For 6 Months For Necessary Renovations

Addressing questions in regards to a judicial protest filed by the Medical Association of Malta (MAM), Health Minister Jo Etienne Abela explained that the national IVF clinic in Mater Dei will close down because of required upgrades and renovations.

The minister explained that the government will still act as a shield to these patients as the service will be outsourced from the private sector.

He stated that everything done by the health ministry is done by placing the patient first, and that this renovation is ultimately being done for this reason.

MAM had stated that it found no issue with the involvement of the private sector to reduce waiting lists, but this outsourcing should not be done at the expense of ignoring obligations.

In response, the minister said that transparency is not an issue as he has met with the organisations and other unions to reveal Mater Dei expansion plans and other initiatives.

Teen PL HQ Bomb Suspect Admitted To Mount Carmel Hospital

A 19-year-old suspected of placing an explosive device outside Labour headquarters has been admitted to Mount Carmel Hospital for psychiatric assessment, Times of Malta has reported.

Following this evaluation, he will stay at the facility for several days before specialists determine his fitness for police questioning. The teenager was arrested on Thursday night, but legal requirements stipulate that suspects must be in a clear mental state before interrogation.

The suspect has not yet been questioned or arraigned, but police believe they have sufficient evidence from CCTV footage and a search of his garage. He is suspected of manufacturing the homemade bomb and placing it in a waste bin outside Labour’s Mile End headquarters.

Neighbours reported hearing a small explosion that night. An intensive search led police to the suspect’s garage in Santa Venera, where the Armed Forces of Malta’s bomb disposal unit discovered a significant amount of TATP, a volatile explosive known as the “mother of Satan.”

The material, powerful enough to shatter windows and cause serious injuries, was removed safely by Friday afternoon after a six-hour operation. Residents in the apartment block above the garage were evacuated during the removal process but have since returned to their homes.

Kylian Mbappe Officially Moves To Real Madrid

Kylian Mbappe has signed a five-year deal with Real Madrid, departing from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), the Spanish club announced on Monday.

This marks the end of Real’s long pursuit of the prolific forward. Mbappe, 25, expressed his excitement on social media, calling the move a “dream come true” and thanking fans for their support.

He will earn €35 million annually. Mbappe had verbally agreed to the move in February and confirmed his departure from PSG in May.

Real Madrid, having just won their 15th Champions League title, finalized the deal before Mbappe joins the French national team for pre-Euro 2024 friendlies. Mbappe, a World Cup winner at 19, scored a club record 256 goals for PSG since his initial loan from Monaco in 2017, which later became a €180 million permanent move.

He helped PSG secure six Ligue 1 titles and reach the 2020 Champions League final, which they lost to Bayern Munich. Despite a hat-trick in the 2022 World Cup final, Mbappe’s France lost to Argentina.

At Real Madrid, Mbappe will join forces with Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham, bolstering the club’s formidable attack. His transfer follows extensive efforts, including intervention from French President Emmanuel Macron to keep him at PSG in 2022.

This fine summer morning in Malta was characterised by surprising stormy weather, flashing all over the islands as rain poured down in various localities.

Weather forecasters had predicted the weather pattern coalescing above the Mediterranean islands, with temperatures reaching highs of 25 degrees Celsius.

This is set to climb to 29 degrees celsius by tomorrow, Wednesday 5th June.

Facebook weather page ‘It-Temp Madwarna’ shared a visual of the weather above the island this morning, as the stormy weather starts to give way to a sunnier week ahead.
