Police Continue Road Inspections In Marsa And Swieqi

Various Malta Police Force sections, along with LESA, continued their inspections to ensure that the rules of Malta’s roads are adhered to. 

In the past few days, during controlled operations carried out in Marsa and Swieqi, 43 vehicles were confiscated when they were found to be driving with excessive speed, others for lack of seatbelt use or mobile phone use, amongst other rule breaking. 

In Swieqi, a driver was found to be driving without a valid license. The vehicle was immediately towed off and court proceedings were kicked off. 

During a Marsa surveillance operation, a vehicle was stopped within which two of the persons riding passenger were found to be living in Malta illegally. The persons were apprehended by police and taken to the Detention Centre to start the process of repatriation. 

The Malta Police Force confirms that the inspections will continue in their full force to ensure the safety on our roads.

After having joined joined Ligue 1 club Stade de Reims, Maltese international footballer Teddy Teuma managed to find the net twice and giving 1 assist in his third game with the club. 

Teuma’s contribution saw Reims beating Montpellier 3-1 after having signed on over the summer through a €5 million move from Union St Gilloise.

Teddy quickly showed that he was not just adaptable to the level being played, but was comfortably at home among the competition.

According to the data released by Jobsplus for July 2023, there was a decline of 46 individuals on a year-on-year basis, in contrast to an increase of 14 individuals registering under both Part I and Part II of the unemployment register. 

Notably, a reduction in registered unemployment was observed across most age groups, except for those under 20 and between 30-44 years old.

Comparing the numbers from the previous year, there was a decrease of eight people among those registering for employment for under 21 weeks, while an increase of 43 individuals was recorded for those seeking employment for over one year. 

Conversely, there was a rise of 19 individuals in the category of people registering for work for a duration ranging from 21 to 52 weeks.

In the same period of July 2023, the count of individuals with disabilities who were actively seeking employment increased by one compared to the previous year, totaling 226 individuals. 

Males constituted the majority, accounting for 77.4 percent of the total number of registered individuals with disabilities.

Occupation-wise, the majority of both males and females on the unemployment register were interested in roles as Clerical Support Workers, comprising 21.3 percent and 36.4 percent of the respective genders.
