Isabelle said she is firmly disappointed in the decision by certain members of parliament whilst still vowing to continue her fight for justice for her late son Jean Paul.

The vote led to both social media backlash as well as to a passionate confrontation between Jean Paul Sofia’s loved ones and the government in parliament.

The high levels of anger and frustration within society highlight the dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of the situation, as the public demands a thorough investigation into the tragic incident in order to avoid more workplace fatalities within the construction industry.

The government Members of Parliament (MPs) voted down an opposition motion demanding a public inquiry into the tragic death of Jean Paul Sofia in a construction site accident last December.

Emotions ran high as family and friends of Jean Paul Sofia, present during the vote, expressed their deep anger and frustration. Shouting messages of outrage towards the government MPs and Prime Minister Robert Abela, the atmosphere inside the parliament grew increasingly tense.

Prime Minister Abela himself faced vehement criticism, being labeled “Mickey Mouse” and accused of being engrossed with his mobile phone throughout the session. In a furious outcry, attendees accused the government MPs of indifference, alleging their primary concern was personal gain rather than the welfare of the people they represent.

This controversial decision has left many questioning the government’s commitment to justice and accountability, particularly in cases involving workplace safety.

The refusal to initiate a public inquiry has intensified the grief and anger felt by Jean Paul Sofia’s loved ones, as they sought answers and closure surrounding the circumstances of his untimely demise.

Young MP Eve Borg Bonello took to social media to share footage of the commotion inside the parliament as she, along with other Nationalist MPs, supported and pushed for the motion to pass.

With the fate of her son’s justice hanging in the balance, Bonnici implored politicians to rise above partisan considerations and vote in alignment with their moral compasses.
