Irishman Dies After Finding Difficulty Swimming In St Julian’s

A 76 year old Irish man died after he found difficulty when swimming in St Julian’s.

It was around 1240hrs when police were informed that their assistance was needed in Xatt is-Sajjieda, St Julian’s.

Police convened immediately on site and there they noted a person in the water. Assistance from the Civil Protection and the Armed Forces of Malta was requested, with the man being brought to land as quickly as possible.

Despite being given medical aid, the man was confirmed deceased a few moments later.

An inquiry has been opened as police investigate further.

Ħal Għaxaq Fun & Educational Activity Teaches Kids About Animal Welfare

An educational event for children in aid to raise awareness on animal welfare took place in Ħal Għaxaq.

Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Animal Rights Alicia Bugeja Said joined in on the children’s activities that brought the children together with various different animals.

The aim of the activity was to increase the children’s awareness on animal welfare and the important role animals play in our society.

During the event, Parliamentary Secretary stated, “Love for animals begins during childhood. Through activities like these, we continue to instil values of empathy, respect, and love for animals in future generations.”

Animal themes books were distributed to children who were present during the activities. These books were provided by the Office of the Animal welfare commissioner in aid to educate children.

The children will remember the various animals they saw, including dogs and horses from the Malta Police Force.

The Mayor of Ħal Għaxaq, Karl Boxall, explained how educational initiatives like this lead to future generations with greater awareness of animal welfare.

1,529,105 Persons Travelled Between Malta And Gozo In First 3 Months Of 2025

The total trips of all ferries amounted to 10,526 with 1,529,105 passengers. However, March was the busiest month with 3,856 trips that makes 36.6% of all trips within the first quarter of 2025.

The Gozo channel route carried most of the traffic in Q1 2025 carrying 1,314,294 passengers. 1.5% more when compared to Q1 2024.

However, March surpasses the statistic with 524,764 passengers amounting to 39.9% of the quarter’s total.

Between January and March 2025, Mġarr saw the most passenger and vehicle traffic on Sundays and Mondays, while Ċirkewwa was busiest on Fridays and Saturdays.

The overall trips in Q1 2025 has gone up by 4.4% from Q1 2024.

The Mġarr to Valleta route also known as the fast ferry is mainly used by commuters and amounted to 2,313 trips in Q1 2025. When compared to Q1 2024, theres a 33.3 % increase.

Passengers on the fast ferry in Q1 2025 amounted to 214,811.

January had the most trips with 785 and March had the most passengers of 80,885.

Malta’s Political Parties Join Forces To Support Puttinu Cares

Malta’s two main political parties joined forces to support Puttinu Cares.

Puttinu Cares’ Angele and Rennie welcomed Minister for Active Ageing Jo Etienne Abela, Minister for Inclusion and Voluntary Organisations Julia Farrugia Portelli, Opposition Leader Bernard Grech, Shadow Minister for Health Adrian Delia, Shadow Minister for Primary Care and Mental Health Ian Vassallo and Shadow Minister for Inclusion and Volunteering Graziella Galea during a visit to the Rainbow Ward at the Sir Anthony Mamo Oncology Centre.

The politicians came together to visit the centre wherein so many kids are helped by the NGO.

This comes ahead of the fundraiser this Good Friday, which will raise funds to continue the expansion of accommodation in London for local patients travelling for further care.
