Inter Milan secured their 20th Serie A title by defeating city rivals AC Milan in the 2023/2024 season’s Derby della Madonnina at the San Siro.

The match saw Inter initially conceding possession to AC Milan, who failed to capitalize on their advantage. Inter gradually gained momentum and opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a Francesco Acerbi header from a corner.

Despite missed opportunities by Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram, Inter led 1-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Marcus Thuram extended Inter’s lead to 2-0 in the 49th minute. Although Fikayo Tomori pulled one back for AC Milan in the 80th minute, Inter’s defense held firm to secure victory and the Scudetto in a historic derby clash.

‘Water - Be The Change’ Gift Packs To Promote Sustainable Living

The Energy and Water Agency (EWA) and the Foundation for Social Welfare Services (FSWS) have joined forces to distribute ‘Water – Be the Change’ gift packs containing water-saving gadgets, aiming to promote sustainable living practices across Malta and Gozo.

These ‘Water – Be the Change’ devices are being distributed at various locations to ensure accessibility, particularly targeting vulnerable individuals in our communities. Recipients have been informed via collection letters and can collect their packages accordingly.

The gadgets included in the ‘Water – Be the Change’ packs serve as practical tools to promote water conservation and financial savings for families. Recipients receive detailed installation instructions during distribution to optimize the use of these devices. Between April and May, over 11,000 water gift packs and 12,000 water kits will be distributed at 28 different locations.

Minister for the Environment, Energy, and Regeneration of the Grand Harbour, Miriam Dalli, emphasized the significance of this collaboration in advancing sustainability. “Through this partnership, we’re distributing practical Water-Be the Change kits, taking tangible steps towards a more sustainable future,” she stated.

Minister for Social Policy and Children’s Rights, Michael Falzon, highlighted Malta’s achievement of the lowest energy prices in the EU, translating into financial relief for citizens. He emphasized that this initiative is part of broader support measures, including increased cost-of-living allowances (COLA), minimum wage raises, and enhanced pensions, without added taxes.

Michael Schembri, Chief Policy Officer for Water at EWA, stressed the importance of collaborative efforts benefiting both the public and the environment.

The ‘Water – Be the Change’ campaign underscores the importance of water conservation without compromising quality of life, fostering wise resource use for future generations. This initiative exemplifies a commitment to sustainable living and societal well-being, contributing to a more resilient and environmentally aware society.

During a press conference held at the Cottonera Sports Complex, Minister Clifton Grima and Special Olympics Malta President Dr Lydia Abela led the signing of a new agreement between SportMalta and Special Olympics Malta. Under this agreement, SportMalta will allocate €600,000 to Special Olympics Malta over the next three years.

The primary goal of this funding is to enable Special Olympics Malta athletes to continue participating in the Special Olympics International Games and attending training camps abroad. Additionally, Special Olympics Malta plans to invest in necessary equipment and kits using these funds as needed.

Minister Clifton Grima highlighted the collaborative efforts between the Ministry and partner entities, emphasizing the positive impact on various sectors of society, including Special Olympics Malta. He expressed satisfaction with the tangible successes achieved by Special Olympics athletes, both in sports achievements on an international scale and in personal development.

Dr Lydia Abela, President of Special Olympics Malta, praised the agreement for its role in promoting inclusivity in sports. She emphasized that the partnership between Special Olympics Malta and SportMalta will not only provide financial support but also bolster essential resources for training Special Olympics athletes. Dr Abela encouraged athletes, who serve as ambassadors for Malta, to look beyond past achievements and continue striving for greater success.

Dr Lydia Abela expressed gratitude to SportMalta and the Ministry for their support, acknowledging the athletes’ parents and all those working for the benefit of Special Olympics Malta. She described this collaboration as a community embodying admirable sports values.

SportMalta CEO Mark Cutajar highlighted the diverse collaboration between SportMalta and Special Olympics, with SportMalta employees committed to assisting in organizing events and providing various forms of support, including financial backing for coaches working with Special Olympics athletes.

3 Social Housing Regeneration Projects Inaugurated In 1 Year

In the past year, the Ministry for Social and Affordable Accommodation launched three regeneration projects in the social housing areas of Marsa, Mosta, and Santa Luċija. These projects, supported by co-financing from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) totaling over €2.8 million, have significantly enhanced the living conditions for 445 residents across more than 50 social housing blocks.

Minister for Social and Affordable Accommodation Roderick Galdes announced these developments during the inauguration of the third community project in Santa Luċija. He highlighted the project’s focus on improving accessibility, including the addition of ramps, tree planting, and the installation of solar panels to generate electricity for the area.

Minister Galdes emphasized the government’s dedication to enhancing both quality of life and sustainability for numerous families through these initiatives. He reaffirmed the commitment to providing decent housing while ensuring a high-quality environment around social housing units. These efforts align with the government’s broader goal of inaugurating new social housing buildings and community spaces for the benefit of residents.

Santa Luċija Mayor Charmaine St. John was also in attendance at the inauguration, underscoring the collaborative effort to enhance living standards and community well-being in the region.
