“Ic-Caqqufa,” a beloved Maltese TV drama series, concludes its five-season run today on GO TV’s TOKIS channel 100.

Premiering in 2013, the show has amassed a dedicated following, captivating audiences with its intricate plotlines and well-developed characters.

The narrative centers on Rose Degiovanni, spanning her life from the 1970s through various stages, portraying her struggles and triumphs.

Rose, depicted as a resilient and intelligent woman shaped by a challenging past under her grandmother Karla’s influence, faces obstacles, including her nemesis Karla, ultimately revealing their similarities.

The series uniquely spans four generations, offering insights into Malta’s cultural and historical evolution, featuring rich cinematography capturing scenes from different decades.

“Ic-Caqqufa” explores themes such as mental health challenges, women’s struggles in a misogynistic culture, and societal issues faced by abuse victims. Produced by Watermelon Media and GO Originals, the show has garnered praise for its compelling script, direction, and a cast that combines experienced and fresh talent.

The production quality extends to the theme song, “EJJA ‘L HAWN,” composed by Megan May Caruana and written by scriptwriter Pierre Portelli, encapsulating the emotional depth of the series, particularly the relationship between Rose and her son Michael.

Josianne Cutajar Will Not Contest EP Elections

Taking to social media, Labour Party MEP Josianne Cutajar announced that, after 12 years of serving in public life, she will not contesting the European Parliament elections.

‘A difficult decision but one that I must take at this stage of my life’, Cutajar explained.

The MEP said that she is proud to have had the privilege of representing the Maltese and Gozitan people on the European level.

‘From the bottom of my heart, I wish to thank the thousands who showed me support and believed in me throughout this voyage’, wrote Cutajar on social media.

‘To my closest, to those close, to the Labour Party, to the team and canvassers, to Nadur’s electorate, the Gozitan and Maltese electorate who elected, for the first time, the first Gozitan and the youngest Maltese in the European Parliament.’

She said that during her career, she made continuous pressure for European politics and laws which recognise the realities and challenges faced by islands such as ours.

She wished her best regards to Prime Minister Robert Abela and the Labour candidates running for the European Parliament elections.

PN Wants To Rule Country From Opposition, Says Prime Minister

Responding to journalist questions after the submission of the Labour and Nationalist Party’s respective submissions in the court case concerning Vitals-Steward, Robert Abela said that the submissions show that the Nationalist Party want to run the country from the opposition.

The government’s lawyer said in court that the case filed by the Opposition is ‘legally surreal’ and can take away powers entrusted to the government.

On the Nationalist Party’s side, lawyer Edward DeBono said that the government is attempting to prevent the State Advocate from taking action on the scandal.

In comments, Prime Minister Abela said the submission by the Opposition shows that the party has ‘given up on running this country’ and that, knowing that with no public support, they intend to take away government powers.

Abela said that the Opposition does not believe in the principle of democracy by attempting to run the country whilst still not in government.

Gladiator Set Pops Up In Xemxija As Sequel Continues Filming

As the Gladiator sequel continues filming in Malta, a filming site in Xemxija popped up and caught the attention of locals.

A post on Facebook page ‘Proud to live in St Paul’s Bay’ explained that people wanting to see the set can, from Xemxija, walk up from the Xemxija Heritage Trail to Mizieb.

The post explained that various people and tourists were in the area visiting the location. However, if you do not manage to make it to this site, the Malta Film Commission is organising an open day this Sunday 21st of January.

The open day at Forti Ricasoli will welcome fans of the film and give them the opportunity to see the set for the sequel.
