Hungary has just passed a new law prohibiting the distribution of knowledge about homosexuality and gender transitioning amongst school children younger than 18 years of age and in advertising.
The new law and nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban have faced strong criticism from other parties and human rights groups for the passing of this law in addition to the country’s already-radical social policy.
Hungary already does not recognise gay marriage and only allows the adoption of children from heterosexual couples, triggering worldwide criticism and creating a divide in Hungary for Orban’s self-styled ‘illiberal regime’.
Christian fundamentalist and gay conversion therapy advocated Matthew Grech was quick to praise such a law, arguing that Malta should follow suit.
