Jun 10 2025 Share

Arts Council Malta (ACM) recently held a regional seminar bringing together representatives from all six of Malta’s regional councils. The event focused on enhancing collaboration in cultural development and sharing best practices and challenges related to the implementation of Regional Cultural Strategies introduced in 2022.

The half-day seminar served as a networking platform to support decentralised cultural growth, promote inclusive governance, and encourage community participation in shaping cultural policy.

Mary Ann Cauchi, ACM’s COO for Funding & Strategy, highlighted the seminar’s alignment with the Council’s Strategy 2025 goals: “By creating a space for regional councils to share insights and reflect, we are fostering a culture of innovation and inclusivity across regions.”

Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government, Hon. Alison Zerafa Civelli, emphasised the importance of learning from both successes and setbacks: “Through strategic dialogue and shared vision, we are bringing culture closer to our communities.”

The programme included case studies from regions that previously held the Region of Culture title, insights from upcoming regions, and the launch of a new cultural mapping initiative to support long-term regional planning.

Stakeholders from ACM, regional councils, the Local Councils’ Association, and government entities participated in the event, reaffirming a joint commitment to cultural progress at the regional level.
