3 Men Arrested On Alleged Drug Trafficking

Yesterday afternoon at around 2:00 pm, the police were informed about a group of individuals in the Swatar area who were suspected to be trafficking drugs.

Upon arriving to the location, the police spotted two men that matched the description given to them, standing in front of a Ford Focus vehicle with another man in the driver’s seat. The three individuals immediately began to act suspicious with one of them attempting to walk away while the other two tried to board another nearby vehicle.

The police using their service vehicle managed to surround the Ford Focus to prevent one of the men from fleeing whilst the other two men were apprehended by another two officers.

The three arrested individuals are aged 41, residing in Birkirkara, 48, residing in Msida, and 49, residing in Birkirkara.

During this search, a number of alleged heroin packets were found. At the same time, the Police also observed that the person who was in the vehicle was hiding some bags, which allegedly contained suspicious substances, under the car seat.

In total, around 30 packets of alleged heroin were found. The case was reported to Magistrate Dr. Anthony Agius Bonnici LL.D, who ordered an inquiry while police investigations are still ongoing.

Janet Zahra Walker, a woman whose apartment building had a wall collapse into it, will be contesting the Local Council Election on the ADPD ticket.

On June 13th of 2019, the wall of an apartment building adjacent to a Mimosa Street, Guardamangia construction site collapsed, forcing 14 families out onto the street.

After 3 years, the family managed to re-enter their home following public outcry and Janet Zahra Walker becoming the face of the push for changes to be made.

Now, as the Local Council elections draw near, Janet has unveiled her candidature for the Pieta Local Council with the ADPD.

In a promotional video uploaded to social media, Janet highlighted some of the issues she seeks to address – including more greenery in her locality as well as the restoration of various sites around Pieta.

Ministers Ian Borg And Silvio Schembri Open First Maltese-Libyan Trade and Export Forum Since 2012

As the first Maltese-Libyan Trade and Export Forum was being inaugurated, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ian Borg stated that a thriving Libya is crucial in order to have a prosperous and vital Mediterranean.

Minister Borg stressed Malta’s commitment to supporting Libya in it’s pursuit for capital gain and economic growth with these sentiments of cooperation between the two countries also being  shared by Libyan Ministers of Economy and Trade, Mohammed Al-Hweij, and Marine Wealth, Adel Sultan.

The forum was attended by multiple representatives from all kinds of sectors including fisheries, banking, insurance and finance. Minister Borg also highlighted the importance of Libya to Maltese economy as it’s largest export partner in the region.

Borg also applauded the success of Maltese enterprises in forging strong commercial ties with Libya over the years and hoped for continued collaboration in sectors vital for both nations’ economies and welcomed Libya’s decision to diversify their economy and not be fully dependent on oil.

Minister for the Economy Silvio Schembri highlighted the mutual goal of bolstering commercial ties and transforming challenges into opportunities. He emphasized the need for Maltese businesses to feel confident investing in Libya, mirroring investments made within Malta.
