PM Robert Abela Pays Tribute to Kimberly Zammit

Jun 7 2025 Share

Prime Minister Robert Abela has written a heartfelt tribute following the passing of Kimberly Zammit, a 22-year-old mother who captured the hearts of the nation during her brave fight against cancer.

Kimberly Zammit, originally from Żurrieq and residing in Birżebbuġa, was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer, while pregnant with her daughter who is now three years old.

Despite the devastating diagnosis, Kimberly became a symbol of strength and resilience across Malta. Shortly after giving birth, she travelled to England to begin treatment, but the cancer continued to spread, eventually reaching her liver, pancreas, hands, and breasts.

Her passing has left the nation heartbroken, with many remembering her as an inspiring young woman who never stopped fighting — especially for her daughter.

In his tribute, Prime Minister Abela wrote: “Kimberly remains an example and inspiration to us all. Every time I spoke to her, I could sense that despite the bitterness illness brings, she had immense courage — because her thoughts were always with her daughter. Her daughter meant everything to her, and Kimberly’s memory will live on in the little girl who, when she grows up and understands the reality her mother faced, will surely be proud of the determination this brave mother showed.”

🕊️ Rest in peace, Kimberly.
