A concerned Maltese resident has taken to Facebook to show the alarming state of Malta’s oriental hornet infestation, sharing the result of a number of rat glue pads with a considerable of hornets after just two days.
“An infestation of oriental hornets that have spawned this summer which apart from being a nuisance are also killing our native bees that produce our delicious honey…” he wrote before going on to highlight how this issue must be addressed before it is too late.
Just recently, The Exterminator’s Arnold Sciberras spoke to Malta Daily about hornets’ plaguing of many Maltese urban areas, sharing a few photos of the severity of an Oriental hornet sting.
Sciberras had also stated that such traps are not advised for homeowners, as they could cause damage to creatures within the ecosystem which are not harmful such as bees, cats and others.
Many have shared these concerns of hornet infestations across Malta, with residents noting a significant increase in hornet occupation over the past months. Have you been experiencing the same?
