Historical 1st place win for Maltese weightlifters in Small Nation Championships
Oct 17 2021 Share

Malta has made history once again as our athletes competing in the small nation championships have managed to place 1st for the first time ever. With a team made up of powerhouses Yazmin Stevens, Roberta Tabone, Anton Micallef, Vladislav Baldacchino and Shaun Ciantar, the national team achieved impressive feats, shooting Malta up to achieve yet another milestone and proving that we are capable of competing at the international level.

They managed to beat Cyprus (who came in 2nd) and Iceland (3rd). Posting to her social media, Stevens expressed her gratitude and joy as this was the first time the mixed group Maltese team won the championships. But that’s not all as elsewhere in the San Marino Open, the team made up of Kaya, Rylee and Aaliyah came in 4th place, continuing the achievements for our local athletes. Well done to all and on to the next!

Leicester score four goals past Manchester United in deserved win

Oct 16 2021 Share

Earlier today, Leicester City scored four goals past Manchester United to ensure a much needed win. This is Leicester’s third win of the season, they haven’t had the best of starts compared to recent campaigns. Manchester United fans and players will be disappointed after dropping points for the third game in a row. The Red Devils currently sit in 5th place whilst the Foxes are in 11th.

The start of the match was very even, with both sides challenging the opposition’s net. The deadlock was broken by local Mancunian Mason Greenwood in the 19th minute from a wonderful shot outside the box. The 20-year old has shown up multiple times so far, with this goal already being his fourth of the season.  After conceding, Leicester started performing much better in search for an equalizer. Leicester’s first goal came in the 31st minute from an insane Youri Tielemans chip that shocked many. The first half ended how it started, with both teams searching for a lead.

The second half was more entertaining than the first with there being four goals. Three of the four goals were scored in a space of 5 minutes, with the first goal coming in the 78th minute from a Çağlar Söyüncü rebound. Manchester United’s equalizer came in the 82nd minute from a clean finish from dynamic attacker Marcus Rashford. Leicester’s goal came only a minute after, from a Jamie Vardy goal that came from their kickoff. Leicester confirmed their win in the 91st minute when new signing Patson Daka placed the ball in the back of the net quite easily.

This is Manchester United’s first away loss since January 2020, an incredible run that unfortunately came to an end. Manchester United will be hoping for a better performance against Italian side Atalanta whilst Leicester’s next match is an away trip to Moscow to face Spartak Moscow.

Legendary British actor Michael Caine announces retirement at age 88

Legendary British actor Michael Caine announces retirement at age 88
Oct 16 2021 Share

Within the entire film industry, there is a select number of legendary actors who have been around for as long as we can remember and Michael Caine is one of them. Sadly, the 88-year-old British actor has announced that he will retire after his final film ‘Best Sellers’.

Caine dropped the bomb in a recent BBC Radio 5 Live interview, revealing that he has a spine problem which affects his legs, making it difficult for him to walk. He went on to state that he wrote a few books during his career, highlighting that he is a writer now, not an actor.

Caine’s film career spans close to 70 years, with notable appearances in pictures such as The Prestige, Dunkirk and The Dark Knight trilogy.
