Seeing a lost or injured animal on the street can be distressing, but knowing how to help can make all the difference. Follow these steps to ensure the animal gets the care it needs.
1. Assess the Situation
Before taking action, observe the animal from a safe distance. If it appears injured, sick, or in immediate danger, avoid making sudden movements that could startle it.
2. Contact Animal Welfare
Call Animal Welfare on the freephone 153 via Servizz.gov and press extension 17. Provide clear details about the animal’s condition and location. The faster you report, the quicker help can arrive.
3. Do Not Attempt Risky Rescues
If the animal is aggressive, scared, or in traffic, avoid putting yourself or the animal in further danger. Let trained professionals handle the situation.
4. Spread Awareness & Consider Adoption
In 2024 alone, Animal Welfare received 15,000 calls and rescued over 1,300 animals, yet only about 500 found new homes. If you can, consider adopting a rescued animal to give them a second chance.
By taking action, you can help ensure that more animals receive the care and love they deserve.
