Plastic waste is one of the world’s major environmental problems and if it is not tackled across the board globally, it will continue irreparable changes.
When plastic break down into microplastics, they harm marine life and may also end up in our food or lungs, which is why beverage companies like Coke are rolling out their new caps, amongst other measures.
In accordance to the European Union’s single-use plastics directive and Coke’s World Without Waste initiative, the beverage company has start to roll out bottles with their caps attached.
GSD Marketing Ltd., which is the sole distributor of The Coca-Cola Company in Malta, told Malta Daily that the company has started a plan to comply to the EU’s legislation and will begin to implement “a set of industry standard and consumer preferred solutions that will start rolling out from this year and continuing next year.”
The Coca-Cola Foundation’s community-based initiative ‘Zero Waste Future’ started in Malta in 2019 with focus on waste categorisation, on the go recycling, clean-ups and awareness campaign. The program is in its second phase and will continue developing programs addressing waste.
What do you think of these new caps?
