Lufthansa Technik Malta is investing €22 million in a new wide-body aircraft maintenance hangar in Luqa, supported by Malta Enterprise and INDIS.

Announced by Prime Minister Robert Abela, the project includes a new parking zone for three aircraft and will generate 70 skilled jobs.

The company provides maintenance for all Airbus models except the A380 and services the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

This expansion strengthens Malta’s position in the global Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) sector, contributing to its €600 million aviation industry.

Prime Minister Abela highlighted Malta’s strong economic performance, noting an 86% growth since 2013, surpassing the Eurozone average of 14%. He emphasised the government’s focus on quality job creation, supporting initiatives like the ‘chooseaviation’ campaign to attract local talent.

Economy Minister Silvio Schembri called the investment a milestone in Malta’s aviation sector, reinforcing its role as an MRO hub in Europe.

He stressed the government’s commitment to infrastructure, talent, and technology to sustain aviation growth under Malta Vision 2050.

Lufthansa Technik COO Harald Gloy stated that Malta will be the first global base for Boeing-licensed 787 Dreamliner cabin modifications, enhancing job opportunities.
