Maltese Luke Micallef has established a new national record on the 10km road distance, with a superb performance in Bologna Italy.

Micallef clocked a time of 29:26 on the World Athletics certified route, placing third in the Italian city. This was a mere two seconds behind the race winner.

The timing, which is subject to formal ratification, means that Micallef has established a new national record. This eclipses the 29:39 registered by Jordan Gusman in the Gold Coast back in 2022.
