In a comment made to local newspaper The Malta Independent, president of the Malta Entertainment Industry and Arts Association (MEIA) Howard Keith Debono stated that COVID-19 measures related to events must be eased at risk of having the situation ‘exploding’ more than it already has.

Mass illegal gatherings in the hundreds have been happening on a week-to-week basis after establishments close at midnight, with little to no form of COVID-19 measures while controlled and limited mass gatherings remain disallowed and restrictive measures for performers remain in place.

The MEIA, together with culture and entertainment campaign restart have proposed a number of measures related to the reopening of controlled events while the former has called for a demonstration titled ‘Daqshekk Siekta’.
