Health minister Jo Etienne Abela joined his colleagues to help with a various medical operations on patients with serious complications.
The Minister was photographed at the hospital helping out, given his extensive experience in the field.
Back in 2022, he was even awarded with the College International Medal by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
At 4pm today, the minister is expected to respond questions in parliament.

During a visit to STMicroelectronics in Ħal Kirkop, PN Leader Bernard Grech praised the multinational company’s success in creating quality jobs and expressed the party’s commitment to supporting similar enterprises.
STMicroelectronics, Malta’s largest private employer with 1,700 workers, produces semiconductors for global clients across industries such as automotive and consumer electronics. In 2023, the company reported revenue of approximately $1 billion.
Bernard Grech highlighted how its focus on high-value goods and specialised employment has made it a key player in Malta’s economy.
Grech emphasised that the Partit Nazzjonalista’s vision for Malta’s future mirrors STMicroelectronics’ model of fostering quality jobs, fair wages, and specialised training.
He pledged that a future PN government would introduce new incentives to attract innovative companies and ensure Malta remains competitive in global markets.
Grech also stressed the need for collaboration between industries and educational institutions like MCAST and the University of Malta to prepare a skilled workforce, particularly in engineering and technical roles.
Accompanied by Shadow Ministers Ryan Callus, Jerome Caruana Cilia, and Ivan J. Bartolo, Grech toured the facility, meeting management and employees. He reaffirmed the PN’s commitment to supporting companies like STMicroelectronics to ensure sustainable economic growth and opportunities for workers.

Prime Minister Robert Abela announced the €12 million Birżebbuġa Promenade Regeneration Project, managed by the Department of Public Works.
With input from University of Malta students from the Faculty for the Built Environment, the designs are finalized, and the application process for construction is underway.
Spanning over 1.5 kilometres, the project will introduce five open spaces—both new and regenerated—upgraded gardens and playgrounds, an underground public parking facility, pedestrian zones, and a dedicated cycling lane. Sustainable materials will also enhance the promenade.
During a visit to Birżebbuġa, Abela emphasised the government’s commitment to investing in projects that improve communities.
He referenced the closure of the 31st March fuel storage plant, which significantly reduced emissions and heavy vehicle traffic, and highlighted local investments like the water polo pitch and Bengħajsa Park. He stressed the importance of leveraging Malta’s economic growth to deliver quality-of-life projects for residents.
Transport Minister Chris Bonett described the project as part of broader urban regeneration efforts, such as the Buġibba square and Msida Creek initiatives.
He highlighted the inclusion of cycling lanes and pedestrian-priority zones, emphasising the government’s focus on sustainable mobility and improved urban spaces.
Parliamentary Secretary Omar Farrugia underlined the project’s goal to provide residents with a recreational space while addressing the historical challenges the locality faced due to industrial expansion.

Speaker of the House Anġlu Farrugia today launched the Malta Employers Association (MEA) publication titled Adapting our Labour Market to an Ageing Population – Comprehensive Analysis and Strategic Framework. In his address, Farrugia highlighted that while an ageing population presents challenges, it also offers opportunities for innovation to ensure a sustainable future. He encouraged stakeholders to review the document and incorporate its recommendations.
Malcolm Paul Agius Galea, Parliamentary Secretary for Active Ageing, stressed that workplace adaptations should be based on medical evidence to support the physical and psychological health of older workers, emphasising the need for adequate rest and leisure time.
Shadow Minister for Active Ageing Paula Mifsud Bonnici called for an integrated policy framework to address both workplace conditions and support systems for older workers.
MEA President Joanne Bondin advocated for promoting silver employment, noting that older workers bring invaluable skills and reduce reliance on foreign labour.
Concluding the event, Speaker Farrugia described the ageing population as a valuable resource, offering examples from Europe where older workers have contributed significantly to economic and social well-being.
