Taking to social media, Facebook weather page It-Temp Madwarna shared a video of an insect many of us hear on Maltese evenings, filling the silence with an iconic chirp.

The crickets, scientific name, Gryllus bimaculatus, come in two different types in Malta, with one found in urban areas and larger ones found in rural areas.

‘A symbol of fortune and natural balance’, It-Temp Madwarna explained. ‘An important insect for the food web and super valuable for our soil and its ecosystems.’

As the Maltese film industry was celebrated in a prestigious award at the Mediterrane Film Festival, among those awarded was the iconic Gladiator legend himself, Russell Crowe.

Crowe, known for his depiction of Maximus in 2000’s ‘Gladiator’, was awarded the Golden Bee Award of ‘Malta Film Legend.’

The Gladiator saga of course continued with the sequel, which brought filming back to the Maltese islands as Ridley Scott sought the scenic environment of our islands for his vision.

4th Turtle Nest Confirmed At Gozo's Ramla L-Ħamra

The fourth turtle nest for the summer has been confirmed at Gozo’s Ramla l-Ħamra.

The turtle, identified as Johanna, was spotted at around 1am by Nature Trust volunteers while patrolling near Nest 3.

This makes Joanna’s second nest of the summer season!

ERA and Nature Trust officials responded swiftly to confirm the nest and secure the area.
