Ħamrun Spartans secured victory in the Super Cup after 31 years, with a resounding 4-0 win over Birkirkara at the National Stadium.
The hero of the day was undoubtedly Jonny Robert, whose exceptional performance and hat-trick stole the show.
Ħamrun took the lead in the 12th minute when Ryan Camenzuli’s precise cross found Jonny Robert in a perfect position, and he confidently headed the ball past Zapytowski.
The Spartans doubled their lead in the 31st minute. Djuranovic initiated the play, delivering a cross to Mbong, who then provided a low cross for Jonny Robert to slot home his second goal of the game.
The champions went into halftime with a comfortable 2-0 lead.
In the 62nd minute, Jonny Robert showcased his exceptional speed, embarking on a solo run from three-quarters of the pitch and skilfully finding the back of the net with a low shot to complete his hat-trick, sending Hamrun fans into a frenzy of celebration.
Hamrun Spartans continued their relentless pursuit of goals, and in the 90th minute, they sealed the victory with a fourth goal. Roko Prsa orchestrated a counterattack, setting up substitute Bruno Ederson, who calmly slotted the ball past Zapytowski, finalizing the scoreline at 4-0 in favor of Hamrun Spartans.
Speaking about this success, club President Joseph Portelli said that he is hopeful for more trophies this season. In his post-match comments, Portelli thanked the players, the coaching staff, and the club supporters who he described as the 12th player on the pitch.
The return of the Super Cup to the Spartans’ trophy cabinet marks a historic moment for the club and its supporters.
